199 schools have pit latrines


In these modern times there are 199 schools that are believed to have pit latrines according to reports coming out of the Ministry of Education. The ministry has declared that it plans to eradicate the pit latrines at a cost of $1.2 billion JMD over a three year period.

At a time when teachers are being blamed for the failure in the education system; one teacher spoken to by Educate Jamaica said, ‘She was surprised that teachers weren’t being blamed for that too.’

The funding to replace the pit latrines will be sourced from the Ministry of Education, Jamaica Social Investment Fund, CHASE Fund, PetroCaribe fund and other stakeholders.

Calls are being made by educators for the Government to properly resources the nation schools.
