On June 26 whilst, addressing the school leaving and prize giving ceremony at Ferncourt High School, Mr Thwaites suggested that good parenting is essential to good educational outcomes for children. He also highlighted the Ministry of education’s aim to continue to do work in this area.
In highlighting the importance of parenting the Education Minister said, “We have to craft a new vision of family, a joyous vision, a vision of wholesomeness if we are really going to be a developed society, if we are going to have a society of settled people, and of responsible child bearing.”
The National Parenting Commission was set up to acknowledge the importance of parents and the role they play in their children's education and achievement.
The commission aims to provide support to parents through the establishment of offices across the island.
